Scots firm that plaid to win on the web

THE House of Tartan, which sells online, won the best small company award at this year's Winners at the Web competition run by Scottish Enterprise.

Blair Urquart, director (pictured with Vanessa McAlastair, also of House of Tartan) said: "The company started off using traditional mail order methods but soon discovered that the internet delivered better results. Since the online system has been fully up and running our turnover has doubled and we now handle around 250 enquiries a week."

The e-commerce award, won by The Scotsman's website last year, went to Celtic Football Club. Celebrity cook Nick Nairn picked up the design and innovation award for the website linked to his Glasgow restaurant.
